Honeymoon inspiration: where can I fly from Birmingham?

Beaches and sunshine, or the buzz of city life?

All-out indulgence, or a peaceful space to enjoy being together?

Whatever you want from your honeymoon, there’s one thing that could instantly dampen the experience: too much travel. Planning a wedding is exhausting. However wonderfully your day goes, you’ll be tired at the end of it. And the very last thing you need is the prospect of a complicated journey to reach your honeymoon.

Get married in Birmingham, and you can fly direct from Birmingham International to your dream honeymoon destination.

The city of love. If it’s classic romance you want, fly direct to either Charles de Gaulle or the more central Orly airport.

Stroll through the Tuileries, then skip up the famous steps of Montmartre to see the view across the city from Sacre Couer. Shop in the famous Galeries Lafayette in the 9th district, and treat yourself to the famous Mont Blanc dessert and hot chocolate at Angelina cafe. Hotel rooms here are famously small, but you only need room for two.

There are direct flights from Birmingham to many other ideal French destinations, from Brest in Brittany to the mediaeval harbour of La Rochelle, a short hop to the beaches and bicycles of the Ile de Re.

Culture, food, fashion: Florence has it all.

Admire Renaissance masterpieces in the Uffizi gallery, and views of the grand Duomo and across the Arno valley. Then retire to a cool villa in the hills to enjoy delicious Tuscan food, topped off with a glass of vin santo. If you’d like some sea, the beautiful Cinque Terre is only a two-hour drive.

From Birmingham, you can also fly direct to Rome, Pisa, Milan, Naples (ideal for Sorrento and the Amalfi coast), and Verona.

Greek islands

If Mamma Mia has revived your passion for sparkling blue seas and glowing white towns, you’re spoiled for choice. Direct flights from Birmingham will take you to the Greek mainland for historic sights, or to many different islands, each with their own distinct charm.

Zakynthos offers unspoilt mountains and pines to the north and west and the stunning beach of Shipwreck Bay, only accessible by boat. Choose Santorini for traditional whitewashed houses and dramatic volcanic beaches, or Skiathos for narrow cobbled streets, artisan shopping and sixty different beaches. Heraklion, Paphos, Kos and historic Rhodes are also easy to reach with a direct flight.

This bright Moroccan gem is a great destination year-round, especially if you’re hoping for some sunshine after a spring or autumn wedding: temperatures reach the high 20s in April and October.

Prepare to haggle at the souks as you walk the narrow streets of the Medina in the heart of the Red City, or choose the high-end style of concept shops in the New Town. Unwind with an amazing massage and skincare experience at a hammam. Admire the historic archtiecture of the ancient red-walled mosques, and the striking blues and bright greens of the Jardin Majorelle.

This vibrant city will make your honeymoon album glow with colour.

Dreaming of palm trees, crystal blue seas and endless white beaches? It has to be the Caribbean.

Choose from all-inclusive packages that allow you to relax and unwind in a branded hotel, to cool and breezy island life in a beachside villa or b&b. Take a scuba diving trip to explore the underwater reefs. If you’re feeling brave, try skydiving or parasailing for a panaromaic island view. Or be like the locals, and watch the world go by.

Just remember: you’re in the birthplace of rum, so be sure to enjoy a cocktail or two.
