Are you looking for a job in a hotel in Birmingham? Are you passionate about customer care and a great hospitality experience?
As the finishing touches fall into place at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre, we sat down with Danni Fasolino, Human Resources Officer to find out more about the people behind the scenes – and how you might become one of them too.
Hi, Danni! Tell us what you do at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre.
My role is pretty varied. As the only HR member of staff, I lead the whole people strategy for the hotel: everything from recruitment and employee relations, to supporting and coaching managers and identifying training requirements.
Tell us a little about your background.
I’m a University of Birmingham alumnus! I graduated in Law in 2013, but knew I didn’t want to go into practice, and started a career in HR instead.
I’ve worked with the construction giant Carillion, and for the last 10 months before coming here, I worked in contract catering in a regional role covering Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Ambitious, inquisitive, reliable.
What’s a typical day at work here at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre like?
At the moment there isn’t one! Which won’t change, actually, because my role is so varied and diverse. That’s what I love about it.
What’s the best thing about working here?
Because I’m in a brand new role, I can completely shape it myself. I love the fact that every day is different. It’s a great environment to work in, too – such a beautiful setting.
This hotel is something that just doesn’t exist elsewhere in Birmingham at the moment: a conference centre, lovely bedrooms and leafy surroundings. You don’t get that in the city centre.
What makes a great hotel?
People. Guests want to be greeted by a happy member of staff! With any business, if you’ve got the right people that makes all the difference.
You’re recruiting for roles at the hotel right now. What makes the ideal candidate?
The right attitude is so important. I want applications from people who really care about customer service and fulfilling guest expectations; who are passionate about working in a hotel environment.
It’s about mindset more than qualifications or experience. We’re looking for people who want to be part of something new and exciting.
What else should we know about you?
I’m half-Italian, and lived there for seven years growing up.
I also have an identical twin sister, Vicki. We’re so alike in personality even our mum can’t tell us apart on the phone!
Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us, Danni.
