Wondering what to do in Birmingham in October 2018?

Birmingham is the UK’s second-largest city, so it’s no surprise to find plenty of entertainment on offer every month. Check out what’s on this month for visitors, locals and families.

Horse of the Year Show

If you love horses, this is a must-see.

The world-class equestrian event celebrates its 70th birthday this year, bringing the best of dressage to Birmingham. Competitive events like the challenging Puissance on Saturday will thrill the crowd. But it’s not just dressage: a range of thrilling performances await, from horseback gymnastics from the GB Vaulters to the gala finale featuring young equestrians from Wales in a spectacle of song, dance and horsemanship.

War Horse

This horse might not be the real thing, but you’ll believe in it utterly.

It’s all thanks to the incredible work of South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, whose full-size horses come breathing and stomping to life on stage. The heartwarming tale of Joey, a Cavalry horse during World War One, and young owner Albert who desperately wants to save him from the waris based on Michael Morpurgo’s beautiful novel. The show has wowed audiences for eight years in the West End, and makes a welcome return to Birmingham. Suitable for audiences aged 10+.

Disney on Ice

Perfect for families with younger children, it’s the latest Disney on Ice show.

Dream Big sees Polynesian hero Moana take to the ice for the first time, helped by beefy god Maui in the hunt for the magical stone of Te Fiti. She’s joined by a host of favourites, from ice queen Elsa to mermaid Ariel and her underwater friends. It’s a spectacle of music, song and breathtaking skating, all in the heart of Birmingham.
