There was a real buzz in the air recently as our team headed to Bath to visit our very own beehives, home to thousands of busy bees producing our delicious, golden honey.
It was a fantastic day that brought together team members from across the hotel – from leadership to sales, finance, and food and beverage, as well as passionate members from our Green Forum, all united by a shared curiosity and commitment to sustainability.
A huge thank you goes to Knight’s Beekeeping, who expertly care for our hives and hosted such an inspiring and educational day. They are on a mission to give corporations the opportunity to keep their own bees, to help protect these incredible pollinators.
The day was filled with fascinating insights. For instance, did you know the UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows since the 1930s? That’s a staggering loss of habitat for pollinators. Combine that with climate change, pesticide use, and invasive species, and it’s clear that bees are facing more threats than ever.
Bees are the most important pollinators in natural ecosystems worldwide. Without them, many plants wouldn’t be able to reproduce – impacting food chains, wildlife habitats, and even our own food supply. In short, protecting bees means protecting life as we know it.

That’s why we’re so proud to partner with Knight’s Beekeeping, who not only care for our hives with expertise and passion but also help businesses like ours play a part in protecting pollinators. Their mission is to make beekeeping accessible and impactful, and their enthusiasm is truly infectious.
Julie Crump, Director of Operations, summed it up perfectly: ‘You leave with a real sense of purpose – and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. And it just shows why it is so important to do our bit for the planet.’
As a certified B Corporation, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Edgbaston Park Hotel. Beekeeping is just one of the many ways we’re working to support biodiversity and build a future where people and the planet can thrive together.
And if you’d like to taste the fruits of our bees’ labour, head to our 1900 Restaurant and try our popular Bees Knees dessert. It’s a sweet reminder of the good we’re doing, one spoonful at a time.
